Coming off their second championship in as many years, the Miami Heat are due for some downtime after going head-to-head in a thrilling seven game series in the NBA Finals with the San Antonio Spurs. On the court, the match-up was a series that pitted the reliable old school versus the flashy new school. Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, and Tony Parker of the Spurs have been a dominating force in the NBA for over a decade. However, among many casual basketball fans, the team’s consistency and brilliant play has been criticized (often wrongly) as being “boring.”

Meanwhile, the nucleus of the Heat is represented by the “Big Three” consisting of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh– a new generation of players that combine dominant athleticism with substance and style. Even though the Heat have gone through a period of being one of the league’s most unlikable teams, they now are one of the NBA’s most marketable.

James and Wade in particular are part of a group of young NBA players who are at the vanguard of fashion. A write-up in GQ at the start of the NBA playoffs described a new rivalry among players who are in a competition to see who can pull off wearing the hottest couture, describing the league as a “runway for the world’s tallest peacocks.” Wade even has a page on his website dedicated to his love of style, complete with an updated look-book featuring his favorite trends.

So who is responsible for this foray among NBA’s top athletes into the fashion world? One might be able to thank Laure Heriard Dubreuil, CEO and co-founder of The Webster Miami. In the following segment from Fairchild Fashion Media, she describes her store’s VIP clientele and how men’s fashion is becoming more daring.
